An AI sales rep that dials all day, follows the rules, and never forgets to follow up
After the custom TMS proved itself in production, SHM Transport asked a bigger question: could AI handle the top of their sales funnel? The answer is a full AI cold-calling platform, built into the TMS they already run on.
What it does
- Fresh prospects every day. An automated feed pulls newly registered FMCSA broker authorities daily, so campaigns always dial companies that just entered the market — before competitors do.
- Real conversations. The agent introduces the product, handles “I’m busy”, answers questions, and drives to one of two outcomes: a booked 15-minute demo or a captured email. Interested leads can be transferred to a human mid-call.
- Compliance is not optional. Every campaign passes a preflight check before a single call goes out: DNC/suppression scrubbing, calling-window enforcement, consent or business-basis recording, and automatic remove-me handling on every call.
- Capacity and cost control. Worker, phone-line, and provider capacity are planned per campaign, with ramp-rate limits, daily caps, and hard budget ceilings — so the system can scale up without surprises on the phone bill.
- Everything measured. Calls, connects, interest, and durations roll up into campaign dashboards; every conversation is logged and reviewable.
Why this is hard (and why most “AI callers” are toys)
Getting an AI to talk is easy now. Getting it to run outbound sales at volume, legally is a systems problem: suppression lists, consent records, capacity planning across telephony providers, graceful failure when a line drops, and campaign simulation before real dials happen. That’s the part I built — the platform around the voice, not just the voice.
Where it stands
The platform is live inside SHM’s TMS with pilot campaigns targeting new broker authorities. I run my own business the same way — an AI agent trained on my work answers my inquiries within minutes while I sleep. I don’t sell automation I wouldn’t run myself.
What this could do for you
Outbound calling is the obvious case, but the same machinery works anywhere a phone call is the bottleneck: appointment reminders, lead qualification, follow-up sequences, after-hours answering. If your team spends hours on the phone saying similar things, that’s a system waiting to be built.
